Many citizens have already crossed the new footbridge over the Vinalopó river where is located the Carrús neighborhood, although it has not been officially opened yet. This new bridge is part of ‘El Valle Trenzado’ project by Grupo Aranea, winner of the International Competition of Ideas for revitalizing the Vinalopó river in Elche, in 2009.

Francisco Leiva and Marta García (Grupo Aranea) occasionally organize guided tours to the construction: if you are lucky to be around Alicante, do not miss the chance to visit this project. Its progress can be followed also in the Grupo Aranea’s flickr, along with other works, which are shown during the construction process and at the end, into use, with amateur photos shared by the authors themselves.

This is a way of communicate architecture which just a few architects usually dare to use, and that we, as editors, really appreciate and value. Not only because it reveals the emotional story behind these works, but also because it helps to build a richer socio-cultural imaginary for architecture. This is absolutely something we will include in the edition of the book Passable Orographies.
